DENTAL CHAIR ISSUES
Every day we use the dental chair without noticed that it gone through many changes since Josiah Flagg in 1790 took a wooden chair and modified it adding a head rest to improve the patient experience, keeping the head in a comfortable position while operating.
Nostalgic designs in dental office
Don’t you remember those old dental chairs that resemble barber shop chairs with dark color and dark gothic style? Well, I have one of those at my office, of course not for patients, it just an inspirational object at my laboratory. I am attracted for old technology design, like dental chairs and old watchmaker’s lathes. My personal office is an ode to machine design, where old 40’s and 50’s styles are mixed with my next generation tech gadgets like my 3d printer and my desk mill.
A friend of mine, who is an architect, asked me about my selection of objects. What can I say? It like being part of history, the hidden part, that tells about how things were made and designed.
From dental chairs to treatment centers
Modern dental chairs, like those I buy 2 years ago, are so comfortable and ergonomic design that makes patients relaxed while you work. The outstanding upholstery with massage function and integrated digital controls allows to perform our work with style and efficiently. More than a simple chair you must consider it a treatment center.
Cleaning and sanitation standards are important features in a dental office and dental chair manufacturer include this feature in new designs like antimicrobial surfaces and tubing, hands free light switch, pedal controls and automatic instrument switch.
Consideration when you buy a dental chair
The dental chair is the foundation stone of the dental office. It is impossible to be dentist without a dental chair. Choose the right one, when you start a dental office, is not a simple issue, you have to consider your budget and office design, for example, when I started my dental office, I had 3 dental cabinets, if I bought the same model it had cost about 3 times more, but what I did was to buy an expensive and beautiful one for principal cabinet, the other 2 chairs I bought were economic models.
One important issue when you buy a new dental chair is the after sale and customer service of the equipment provider. Never forget that piece of technology you afforded will need service forever.
